Roseberry Topping
The jewel in Cleveland's crown is the iconic Roseberry Topping, a distinctive landmark with panoramic vistas across the North Yorks Moors to the North East coast. It is an invigorating climb to the top, but well worth it for the view! Roseberry Topping lies on the Cleveland Way, a 109-mile walking and cycling trail stretching from Helmsley deep in the North York Moors to the coastal town of Filey.
Captain Cook's Monument
Conquer another of the Cleveland Way's landmarks with a trip to the top of Easby Moor to see Captain Cook's Monument, a stone obelisk built in 1827 to honour the famous explorer who grew up in the village of Great Ayton.

Great Ayton sits on the northern edge of the North York Moors National Park, a picturesque heathland covering 554 square miles just waiting to be explored, from dense forest to open moorland and beautiful coastal towns and villages.
Stokesley
Stokesley is a pretty market town just 10 minutes' drive from Great Ayton. There are many independent shops, cafes and restaurants to keep you busy, and weekly and monthly markets draw visitors from far and wide to experience the wide range of local artisan produce.
Captain Cook Schoolroom Museum
Cleveland's most famous adventurer, Captain James Cook, was born and raised in Great Ayton village. A museum is dedicated to his early life and education in the village, and his career as an explorer on the high seas.
